Steps
Using Giphy
- Sign into your Slack team. To do so, go to your team’s workspace URL in a web browser, or navigate to https://slack.com/signin.
- Navigate to https://slack.com/apps/A0F827J2C-giphy. This opens the Giphy page in the Slack App Directory.[1]Advertisement
- Click Install. It’s the green button in the left column.
- Click Add Giphy Integration.
- Select a GIF rating. The default is a G rating for general audiences, but you can select a different option from the drop-down menu.
- Click Save Integration. Giphy is now ready to use.
- Navigate back to your Slack workspace.
- Click the channel where you want to share a GIF. Your channels appear in the left column.
- Type /giphy <any word> and press ↵ Enter. Replace “<any word>” with something that describes the type of GIF you want to share. A matching GIF will appear.
- For example, if you want to see GIFs of cats, type /giphy cats.
- Click Shuffle to view more matching GIFs. Keep pressing the button until you find the GIF you want to send.
- Click Send. The selected GIF will now appear in the channel.Advertisement
Uploading a GIF from your Computer
- Sign into your Slack team. To do so, go to your team’s workspace URL in a web browser, or navigate to https://slack.com/signin.
- Click the channel where you want to share a GIF. Channels appear in the list along the left side of the screen.
- Click +. It’s at the bottom of the screen to the left of the typing area.
- Click Your computer. Your computer’s file browser will appear.
- Click the GIF you want to send. Clicking the GIF one time will select it.
- Click Open.
- Select who should be able to see the GIF. By default, the GIF will only be shared with you. Select another option from the drop-down menu as necessary.
