Requested move 15 June 2024

edit

Class 360Class 360 (disambiguation) – I feel as though that the Class 360 in the UK is the most popular and primary topic hence the rename. One other editor wanted to bring back the class 360 as a disambig page. I think it should go thru a proper RM to change the name again because of the disagreement between editors. JuniperChill (talk) 23:46, 14 June 2024 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). @Rotideypoc41352: What I meant is that Class 360 (disambiguation) should remain at that title, and to open an RM for editors to bring back the rename to Class 360 if users wanted to. I contested the rename back to Class 360, saying that a proper RM is required. In other words, I asked for an RM to revert the move, not to properly move the page followed by starting an RM. JuniperChill (talk) 10:59, 15 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
JuniperChill, if you have no objection to the revert (i.e. you no longer think the base page name should be a primary redirect to British Rail Class 360), we can close this as withdrawn (and a misinterpretation on my part). As a general note, usual procedure is to revert the recent bold move first and then initiate an RM from the longstanding page names—in that order. Per WP:RMUM: If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself and if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves (bold original). In this specific case, the revert was filed at technical move requests (permalink above) less than a week after the original bold move. Ah, I see. I think my comments are a little unclear (even to myselves). I am not withdrawing the request. Just to make it clear, I moved Class 360 to Class 360 (disambiguation) for a primary redirect to British Rail Class 360. It is just that someone put out a comment at WP:RMTR to revert it back again, so I tried to stop it there. I just think that for English readers that the primary topic for the class 360 is British Rails Class 360, because one, it is the most popular one out of all and two, it is the only one titled exactly that way. • Oppose, per WP:NWFCTM, British Rail Class 360 may be the primary topic in the mind of UK readers, but Wikipedia is read by people in other countries who may not consider it as such. Not seeing a convincing argument to change the status quo. Weshmakui (talk) 05:09, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - as above, Wikipedia is more than British Wikipedia. Danners430 (talk) 05:53, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
(replying to both) but I think most people who read/search 'class 360' are from the UK. Those in the other countries would likely never heard of it. I have a link above that the proposed redirect target is the most popular one out of all. I am making it easy for most readers to look for what they want with one less click and the rest can do so in two. JuniperChill (talk) 08:40, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Comment, with the greatest of respect, I doubt you have any idea as to where people who read articles are from. Weshmakui (talk) 02:44, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Support because of this. The pageviews data JuniperChill provided above was imprecise – it showed the pageviews of each page listed on this DAB, regardless of whether the readers came from this DAB or not, which is not how we should judge what the primary topic is. I have linked the WikiNav tool, which shows which DAB link readers actually click on, and in the most recent month all 68 readers went to British Rail Class 360. (Technically this means that each other link received between zero and ten clicks.) I think this is a strong enough case for making British Rail Class 360 the primary redirect target of Class 360 and moving the DAB page to Class 360 (disambiguation). I hope it's okay to ping @Weshmakui, @Rotideypoc41352, and @Danners430 again, since I believe the WikiNav data directly addresses their reason for opposing the move. Toadspike [Talk] 11:19, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Closer, I did the revert as a matter of procedure. I am neutral; I think given the view stats, it would not make a huge difference whether Class 360 is a dab or redirected elsewhere (with a hatnote to the dab). Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 03:29, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
