Where, What, and When?

edit

Where? Pritzker Military Library, 104 S. Michigan Avenue Google Maps link

Note: You might miss the library if you're not looking carefully. The Pritzker is on the corner of Michigan and Monroe in the Monroe Building (across from the Art Institute) starting on the 2nd floor. You'll see a plaque on the wall to the left of the street entrance clearly displaying the library name.
  • Nearest Transit Stations
     Blue Line - Monroe
     Red Line - Monroe
     Brown Line - Adams/Wabash
Pink Line /      Green Line /      Orange Line - Madison/Wabash
Metra - From Union Station, it's about 7-8 minute walk. Refer to Google Maps for directions from the station.
  • Nearest Bus Lines:
Northbound: The 3, 4, 6, 26, 143, and J14 all drop you off at Michigan & Monroe-- just walk across Michigan and you'll be right where you need to be!
Southbound: Same lines as above will all drop you at Michigan & Jackson-- from there, walk north about two blocks to Monroe and look to your left for the library.
  • Parking
(Presently looking into options.)

What? Editors of all experience levels are invited to:

  1. Meet and kibitz with your fellow Chicagoland Wikipedians in person!
  2. Go on a free guided tour of the Pritzker Military Library (it has many awesome exhibits, and makes it seem more like a museum than a library at times!)
  3. Help work on a small number of articles, a few Chicago-based and a few not, and do our best to get them prepared for Good Article Nominations, or if they are already Good Articles, Featured Article Nominations. (One source for ideas is on women in the military, a topic the Pritzker has a special exhibit on at present, See the talk page for discussion.)
  4. Help plan or participate in a very brief (~30-45 min) workshop for new editors and those interested in how to use Wikipedia, and,
  5. Plan on what projects WikiProject Chicago should focus its attention on through the rest of the year.

When? Saturday, October 26th from 10AM - 4PM.

What else do I need to know?

The Pritzker will provide a free lunch for all attending from Panera, likely between noon and 1:00 PM. Come when you can, stay as long as you'd like. They have wireless available and comfy couches. While the Pritzker does have some desktops available, you are encouraged to bring your own laptop.
After a hard day's work of Wikipedia-ing (Wikipeeding? Wiking? ...whatever.), we can venture forth and find ourselves some eats. There's a place called Plymouth at 327 S Plymouth Ct that I was considering-- it's relatively cheap. There is rooftop seating, but we'll see about the weather.
Note about entry fees: The Pritzker has agreed to waive the normal $5 entry fee for non-members of the library for those who are signed up for the event on this page. You will be asked to sign-in on arrival to the Pritzker.
That's a wrap! Thanks to all who came. Outcomes of the edit-a-thon are below. I, JethroBT drop me a line
