Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. Redirect to Slovakia at the 2014 Winter Olympics#Luge as ATD because I could not find any in-depth coverage about this luger to meet WP:GNG. Agree with the suggested Redirect. Only database sources can be found, no in-depth coverage, does not fulfill WP:SPORTSCRIT.

Delete - there is no basis for an article here. We don't even know his DOB, position or POB! I note that Order of Kim Jong Il and this source have a person of this name achieving an award which might be a claim towards WP:ANYBIO, however, I am not completely satisfied that this is the same person. Comment The proper time for article creation is likely to be if they earn a cap on the main squad, certainly not before that. Who their parent is doesn't give them a notability multiplier regarding article creation since they're still only on a U15 squad as part of a national league that is effectively on par with a local AYSO club. This article has sources including BBC, Jersey Evening Post and ESPNcricinfo and links to several other pages on Wikipedia. The subject is a player for the Jersey women's national cricket team with 19 caps including in a T20 world cup qualifying tournament. I was trying to create a complete set of pages for the Jersey women's cricket team excluding those players who have done nothing of note of course. Thanks for the kind words (it is truly appreciated and nice to read) but I'm just getting ahead of the curve. While other reviewers have seen no issue with any of them it seems I have fallen foul of one that sees no value in small places or sports not popular in certain parts of the world. I have added more information and sources as discussed with you. Delete. Sports biographies are subject to a heightened sourcing standard. See WP:SPORTBASIC prong 5: "Sports biographies must include at least one reference to a source providing significant coverage of the subject, excluding database sources." The Olympia article is a dead link, it doesn't lead anywhere. I believe this article doesn't meet WP:SIGCOV either. Sourcing of BLPs have to be precise. Could you please elaborate on how the La Stampa article does not show WP:SIGCOV? This is an article on national press, entirely dedicated to the subject who just won the national tournament of his sport, detailing his previous career achievements and his personal life. On the personal life section, it says he studied at a university, this is too broad, and it won't stand even with a reference without a specific pinpoint of what university the person studied at.

Comment. I think the article relies pretty much solely on this source, https://www.sports.ru/tribuna/blogs/autoblog/1020556.html, which covers the subject extensively and is solely about the subject but does not seem to be a reliable source (it's essentially a blog post). Everything else consists of passing mentions or profiles on sports pages which every martial artist has regardless of notability. I did find this source https://fighttime.ru/news/item/30275-boets-maksim-novoselov-osuzhden-na-pyat-let.html?rand=19907 which appears to have several similar articles around the internet of him being arrested again. Comment It's hard to evaluate the quality and reliability of these sources. I'll admit to being skeptical about them, but I'm open to being convinced (which is why I didn't vote yet). According the FIAS, the world sambo organization, he's never competed at a world championship and the European sambo association's webpage only has results back to 2010 so I can't confirm his European title. Fightmatrix.com shows his highest MMA ranking was 110th, but he never fought another ranked fighter. He certainly appears to be a scary guy you wouldn't want to cross, but I'm not seeing anything that meets any WP SNG criteria. The question is whether or not he meets WP:GNG. The given source is an obit [11] that vaguely refers to playing on a Negro league team at some time. The given team ceased play in 1951 when the subject was 20, but as I stated, I cannot find any other source backing this up. That leading Australian newspaper archive Trove brings up NOTHING for "Ted Pierce polo" has me suspect that he was known under some other name or something. I also think that there's a good chance there's sigcov in Water Warriors, a 600-page book chronicling the Australian Olympic water polo team, especially given that he seems to have been one of the more prominent players as he was chosen for three Olympics (he is mentioned in the book). Craig Butler (football manager)

This article does not meet any notability standards. The most notable thing about him is that he is the father of two players, but this is Wikipedia, not WikiTree. That he managed a high school team may get him some mentions in newspaper articles, but where those don't relate to his more famous sons, they are "local newspapers", which also don't make him notable. @Das osmnezz: GiantSnowman probably was aware of those, as they and I discussed them here previously. The article [19] is about him leading his High School team to victory. That's hardly significant. [20] and [21] definitely would be significant, if anything had ever come of those ideas. Someone's grandiose plans to take over Jamaican football, even if announced in local newspapers, amount to little if none of them ever come true. Thanks for posting these. I saw the first three when I was initially nominating the article. The problem with these is that they are focused almost entirely on his signing a professional contract and are very much local coverage—his hometown newspaper(s). This is hardly sustained coverage or, in my view at least, significant, meaningful coverage. The fact that the event these article cover happened, but then he went on to have a very brief career with no league appearances and no coverage at all makes me feel like it doesn’t/shouldn’t suffice for WP:SIGCOV. No issues with 'local' news per se - but to analyse the sources: Shaw Network is paywalled but what is available is a bit routine; DH 1 looks OK; DH2 is routine; Portsmouth News 1 and 2 routine. Note Three new sources have been made inclusion before this went AfD but after it went up as a proposed deletion. And even if someone would remark on there being only two scores you should keep in mind that one score is for $5,000,000 - and is a second place in the main event (world championship) - and the other is a win in a WPT Main Event (the largest set of tournaments next to the World Series of Poker) - both these scores alone should merit inclusion. Ah, I think I see the issue. It appears that it is a paid promotional piece, since at the bottom of the article there is a note which says " This article was written in conjunction with Barastoc". Weak keep, seems to be a lot of buzz about a pine-tar incident (not to the point of 1E, but a factor in considering one of the smaller publications above), but I'm convinced that the TP-NOLA articles are very in-depth and secondary, and the WDSU coverage is suitably in-depth. Would it be better if there were more widespread coverage? The subject's association with the ONE Championship is now verified, but "so what?", participation in the ONE Championship is not grounds for notability. The article has been reference-bombed, but nothing in the article refers to significant coverage in an article that does not speak for itself. This article differs enough from the deleted article so that speedy deletion is not in order; but it does not differ enough from the deleted article to avoid deletion. Comments She has never met WP:NMMA. The first source mentioned above is an article about her brother, she is mentioned in passing because she was on the same fight card. The next three are pre-fight articles about her first match in the promotion's Grand Prix tournament (which would be typical coverage for any fighter). The final reference is a report on that fight, which she lost. Even if you believe that coverage is significant, it is all about one event. Didn't check other references, so I'm not voting yet. Delete It's clear she doesn't meet WP:NMMA or WP:ANYBIO, so the question boils down to meeting WP:GNG. I commented earlier on the existing references at the time. Since then user Let'srun added two sources from the week preceding her last fight--the first is that she's training with her fiance and the second is standard prefight coverage about her bout with a completely unranked (by fightmatrix) fighter who took the fight on two weeks notice. The three sources mentioned by Oaktree_b are another pre-fight article on the same fight, that fight's result report, and that the currently injured One promotion champion is willing to fight her "dearest friend" for her title when she recovers from injury (which all sounds promotional and not-independent to me, especially given she's already got a fight scheduled for September). I see lots of coverage in terms of number of articles, but everything seems to be typical coverage that any pro MMA fighter would have. She is currently ranked 41st in the world and has never beaten a top 25 fighter, so there's nothing to distinguish her from other aspiring fighters. She's had 5 fights (3 wins, 2 losses) since the article was previously deleted so it doesn't appear that much has changed. She may become notable, but my crystal ball simply isn't that good. I'm a bit unsure about this one, as he seemed to have a rather robust career, but it was entirely at the non-league, semi-pro level. There doesn't seem to be much of any WP:SIGCOV outside of this local newspaper coverage. I'd like to see what consensus is here, as it feels like a "delete" for me, but I'm curious what others think. Comment I don't know, I don't think redirecting to the players article helps, seems to be an important figure for the club in the 1970s and 1980s, first as a player then as a manager. I'd prefer to keep, however if not, suggest a redirect to the club page Scarborough F.C. His name is mentioned four times on the page, twice as player of the year and twice as manager. As the content on the article is sourced, it maybe a good idea to merge some of the content. Deletion doesn't help anyone. Govvy (talk) 10:42, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to have been pretty prominent; though searching isn't helped by the fact that the same team had another prominent Harry Dunn at the same time... There's an interview here, and while an interview, it does note that "Harry became a legendary player for Scarborough Football Club. ... Harry Dunn, in what was a 22 year period from 1965 to 1986 you played over 900 games for Scarborough FC, you scored many goals and created many more. You had well over twice the number of appearances of any player in the Club’s history and well over three times the number of appearances by any local player. You have been described as: -the ever present Harry Dunn -competent, reliable and dependable -a calm presence on the field -a gentleman on and off the field – everything that was needed for a team captain to lead Scarborough Football Club to the success it enjoyed and particularly to those Wembley victories." A very easy keep. This biography clears GNG and NSPORTS by more than a lot of sports bios I've seen here. There is WP:SIGCOV in The Province, Baseball America, and Sportsnet, all of which are WP:SIRS. Dclemens1971 (talk) 01:02, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Weak delete I created this article as a redirect to Toronto Blue Jays minor league players, but I don't think Large is notable enough for a standalone article. The Baseball America reference is a general stat page that all minor league prospects have. In my opinion we only have 2 refs contributing towards notability in terms of SIGCOV (The Province & Sportsnet). If more SIGCOV is found I do think that the article should probably be kept.
