penyanyi asal Amerika
Solana Imani Rowe (lahir 8 November 1990),[3] atau lebih dikenal dengan SZA merupakan penyanyi R&B asal Amerika Serikat. Ia lahir di Saint Louis, Missouri, lalu berpindah ke Maplewood, New Jersey.[1][4] Pada Oktober 2012, SZA merilis album mini pertamanya berjudul See.SZA.Run, kemudian ia merilis album mini keduanya S di April 2013. Pada Juli 2013, ia menandatangani kontrak bersama label rekaman Top Dawg Entertainment, lalu merilis album mini Z pada April 2014.[5] SZA merilis album studio debutnya pada 9 Juni 2017 berjudul Ctrl.[6]

Kehidupan awal
suntingSolana Imani Rowe lahir pada 8 November 1990, di St. Louis, Missouri dan dibesarkan di Maplewood, New Jersey. [1] Ayahnya adalah produser eksekutif di CNN, sementara ibunya adalah eksekutif di AT&T. SZA lahir dari orang tua Amerika-Afrika, seorang ibu Kristen dan seorang ayah Muslim. Dia memiliki saudara tiri yang lebih tua bernama Tiffany Daniels, dan seorang kakak lelaki, Daniel, seorang rapper bernama Manhattan. Dia dibesarkan sebagai seorang Muslim ortodoks.[7]
Dia menghadiri sekolah persiapan Muslim setiap hari setelah sekolah regulernya. Rowe bersekolah di Columbia High School, di mana ia sangat aktif dalam olahraga, termasuk senam dan pemandu sorak. SZA membentuk nama panggungnya dari Alfabet Tertinggi, mengambil pengaruh dari rapper RZA. Dua huruf terakhir dalam namanya mewakili Zig-Zag dan Allah, sedangkan huruf pertama yang dikatakan SZA dapat berarti penyelamat atau penguasa.[9]
Karier

Awal karier
suntingSZA pertama kali bertemu anggota Top Dawg Entertainment dan Jason Manawan selama CMJ New Music Report pada 2011, ketika perusahaan pakaian pacarnya mensponsori sebuah pertunjukan di mana Kendrick Lamar tampil. Musik awalnya diberikan kepada presiden TDE Terrence "Punch" Henderson, yang terkejut dengan kualitas materi. Keduanya tetap berhubungan, dan setelah SZA mulai menghasilkan buzz dengan merilis dua EP-nya, TDE melangkah untuk mengontraknya sebagai artis wanita pertama label 2013.[10]
Pada 29 Oktober 2012, SZA merilis EP debutnya See.SZA.Run. Pada 10 April 2013, SZA merilis EP keduanya, S, yang mendapat tanggapan positif dari para kritikus musik. Pada 14 Juli 2013, Top Dawg menandatangani kontrak dengan SZA. Pada Desember 2013, SZA merilis lagu "Teen Spirit" yang diikuti oleh rilis remix yang menampilkan rapper Amerika 50 Cent, bersama dengan video musik yang disutradarai oleh APLUSFILMZ. Pada 26 Maret 2014, artis R&B SZA merilis single "Child's Play" yang menampilkan Chance the Rapper dan diproduksi oleh Dae One & XXYYXX. Sebuah EP, Z, dirilis pada 8 April 2014 kemudian disusul dengan singel utama, "Babylon" disertai dengan video musik yang disutradarai oleh APLUSFILMZ dan Jason Manawan.[11]
Album CTRL
suntingPada tanggal 28 April 2017, SZA menandatangani kontrak rekaman label besar pertamanya dengan RCA Records. Pada 9 Juni 2017, SZA merilis album debutnya, Ctrl, untuk mendapat sambutan universal dari para kritikus musik, mencetak nilai 86 dari 100 peringkat di Metacritic. Ctrl diberi peringkat sebagai album terbaik 2017 oleh Time.[12]
Pada 28 November 2017, SZA menerima lima nominasi Grammy termasuk satu untuk Best New Artist. Ia menerima nominasi artis wanita terbanyak untuk 2018 Awards dan secara total menjadi artis nominasi keempat. Meskipun demikian, ia tidak akhirnya memenangkan penghargaan apa pun yang dinominasikan untuknya.[12]

suntingGaya musik SZA telah digambarkan sebagai "alt R&B". SZA mendengarkan Ella Fitzgerald untuk pengaruh vokal. SZA mulai menulis lagu karena "bersemangat" tentang menulis, dan menikmati puisi; saat menulis lirik, SZA "freestyles" mereka untuk mengekspresikan apa pun yang datang ke "pikiran" nya, mencatat bahwa itu tidak selalu masuk akal untuk dirinya sendiri.[14][15]
