Petard
small explosive device
A petard is a "small bomb used to blow in doors and blow holes in walls" and comes from the French pétard, which, through Middle French (péter) and Old French (pet), comes from the Latin pedere ("to break wind") or, much more commonly, the slang form "to fart".
